The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has appealed to the Christian Council of Ghana to play a leading role in restoring discipline, patriotism and moral values among young people.
Speaking during a National Youth Month event organised by the Christian Council of Ghana, Mr Ayariga said the Church possesses a unique influence that government alone cannot replicate in shaping the character of the nation’s youth.
He noted that while government can formulate policies and create opportunities for young people, the responsibility of building strong values largely rests with families, faith-based organisations and educational institutions.
According to him, rebuilding the country’s moral foundation requires a collective effort from all stakeholders committed to youth development.
“I want to make a special appeal to the Christian Council. You have something government cannot replicate—pulpits in nearly every community, radio and television platforms, and a membership that reaches deep into homes across this country,” he said.
“Kindly use them. Preach discipline. Teach respect for authority and lawful process.”
Drawing inspiration from the Bible, Mr Ayariga cited Proverbs’ instruction to “train up a child in the way he should go” and Hebrews’ teaching that discipline produces “a harvest of righteousness and peace.”
He explained that the goal was not to punish young people but to nurture responsible citizens and future leaders capable of driving Ghana’s development.
Mr Ayariga reaffirmed the National Youth Authority’s commitment to empowering young people through skills development and economic opportunities but stressed that character must remain at the centre of national progress.
“Skills without character only go so far. Talent without integrity is a liability, not an asset,” he said.
He called on churches, parents, schools and government institutions to work together in raising a generation that values integrity, service, dialogue, patriotism and truth.
