Church members of the Kristo Asafo Mission have expressed relief and satisfaction following the burial of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, describing it as a befitting farewell for the revered founder.
Speaking to Adom News at the Independence Square in Accra, where final preparations are underway for the second day of the funeral rites, the members said they were pleased that the late Apostle was laid to rest at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region on Thursday.
“Our father, Apostle Safo Kantanka, has been buried. He was laid to rest yesterday at about 12 noon, and today we are here to give him the final respect he deserves,” one church member said.
Another added, “We have buried him, and that is what happens in life. We are here to honour him for his immense contribution to the church and the nation.”
Several members also commended former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for ensuring that her father’s burial took place despite the legal disputes that surrounded the funeral arrangements.
“Adwoa Safo has done well by giving her father a befitting burial. She has been brave throughout this process,” a member stated.
Another church member insisted that claims suggesting Adwoa Safo did not know the whereabouts of her father’s body were false.
“Adwoa Safo is a brave woman. Anyone who says she doesn’t know where her father’s body is is lying,” the member said.
Responding to questions about the absence of Apostle Safo Kantanka’s son, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Jnr., popularly known as Akofena, at the funeral, one church member expressed disappointment.
“He is a grown man. His father has died and his funeral is taking place. It is his own decision if he chooses not to attend, but I don’t think it is the right thing,” the member said.
The second day of the funeral rites at Independence Square is expected to attract thousands of mourners, including family members, church members, dignitaries and well-wishers, who will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana.
