The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inaugurated its National Elections Committee to oversee processes leading to the party’s National Conference for the election of national officers.

The committee was inaugurated by the Acting National Chairman, Smith Dankwa Butey, who tasked members to execute their mandate with integrity, impartiality and professionalism in line with the party’s constitution and applicable regulations.

The committee is chaired by former Suhum Member of Parliament, Frederick Opare-Ansah, with Atiwa East MP Abena Osei Asare serving as Vice Chairperson and Evans Nimako as Secretary.

Other members of the committee are Madam Oboshie Sai Cofie, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Salam Ama Appianin Damata, Eric Ntori, the Ashanti Regional Chairman who will assume office after the conclusion of the Ashanti Regional Elections, and Mr Frank Davies, Esq.

The committee’s mandate includes planning, organising and supervising all processes leading to the National Conference, as well as conducting the elections in accordance with the NPP’s constitution and relevant regulations.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Mr Opare-Ansah thanked the party leadership for the confidence placed in them and assured members that the responsibility would be carried out with dedication.

He said the assignment goes beyond the conduct of an election, describing it as a responsibility to protect the party’s democratic values, unity and credibility.

“We recognise the enormous responsibility entrusted to us. We are determined to ensure that every stage of the process is conducted with fairness, transparency, integrity and strict adherence to the Constitution and the rules governing the elections,” he said.

Mr Opare-Ansah urged aspirants, party officers and members to support the committee’s work by respecting the established rules and procedures.

He added that the committee would engage relevant stakeholders throughout the process to promote transparency, build confidence and address concerns that may arise.

He noted that although elections naturally come with competition, the process should ultimately strengthen rather than divide the party.

“Our objective is not merely to conduct successful elections but to leave the Party stronger, more united and better positioned for the important national task ahead. Every contestant and every delegate must have confidence that the process will be impartial and that every vote will count,” he said.

The committee chairman further assured party members that the body would operate independently, professionally and without fear or favour, stressing that fairness to all contestants would remain its guiding principle.

The NPP expressed confidence that the committee has the experience, competence and integrity required to deliver a credible electoral process that reflects the party’s democratic traditions.
