The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has given occupants of spaces around the Asafo Interchange a three-day ultimatum to vacate ahead of a planned demolition exercise scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026.
The exercise will target persons occupying areas beneath the Asafo Interchange, behind COCOBOD, and within the Takoradi Flour Mill enclave, as part of efforts to restore order and reclaim public spaces.
In a statement issued and signed by the Assembly’s Public Relations Unit, KMA said the operation forms part of its commitment to improving public safety, enforcing city by-laws, and addressing unauthorised occupation and criminal activities within the metropolis.
According to the Assembly, the affected areas have become hotspots for illegal activities, including prostitution, the sale of hard drugs, and other criminal acts.
“The Assembly will not tolerate the continued use of public spaces for illegal activities,” the statement stressed.
KMA also disclosed that its officers, City Guards, and other security personnel were attacked during a recent inspection and enforcement operation at the site.
“The public, particularly perpetrators of these barbaric acts, should note carefully that such acts will not deter the Assembly from enforcing the law and ensuring the safety of residents,” the statement added.
The Assembly has directed all persons who have erected temporary or unauthorised structures within the affected areas to vacate the premises on or before Friday, July 17, 2026.
Individuals or organisations claiming to have lawful authorisation or permits to occupy the areas have been asked to submit relevant documentation to the Works Department of KMA before the close of work on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
KMA warned that any structure without valid documentation, which is not received and verified by Wednesday, July 15, 2026, will be deemed unauthorised and demolished during the exercise.
The Assembly urged affected persons to comply with the directive to avoid forceful eviction and possible loss of items or structures without compensation.
“The Assembly appreciates the cooperation of the public as it works to maintain law and order,” the statement concluded.
The demolition exercise forms part of KMA’s broader efforts to decongest Kumasi, improve public safety, and ensure that public lands and infrastructure are used for their intended purposes
