Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, insisting that he never abandoned the NPP despite his suspension.
Speaking in Accra on his vision for the party as a candidate for the National Chairmanship position, Mr. Afoko said the NPP has the capacity to return to power in the 2028 general elections if it focuses on rebuilding its grassroots structures and reconnecting with Ghanaians.
He stressed the need to strengthen polling station executives, constituency structures, and party foot soldiers, describing them as the foundation of the NPP’s electoral success.
“If elected National Chairman once again, I would lead as a team player, promoting unity and collective decision-making within the party,” he said.
Mr. Afoko also called on the business community to renew its confidence in the NPP, urging the party to regain the trust of entrepreneurs, traders and other key stakeholders.
He said the party must embrace humility, learn from its past mistakes, and engage more effectively with various sectors of society to create a new era of prosperity.
On youth development, Mr. Afoko pledged to create more opportunities for young people through mentorship, leadership training and increased participation in decision-making processes.
Addressing discussions about the influence of the “Northern factor” in the National Chairman race, he rejected the idea that ethnicity should determine leadership choices within the party.
“The NPP is a national political party that belongs to all Ghanaians,” he said.
Mr. Afoko pledged that, if given the opportunity to lead again, he would serve all party members equally regardless of their ethnic or regional background.
