The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has instructed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to ensure the fair and transparent distribution of relief items to victims affected by Monday’s devastating floods.
During a tour of flood-hit communities, the Minister emphasized that assistance must be directed only to those genuinely affected by the disaster and warned against any favoritism or abuse in the distribution process.
“I am urging the MMDCEs to go to their respective districts and distribute the items among the affected individuals. We do not want to hear reports of people who were not affected receiving benefits meant for those in need. We ask the MMDCEs and the Members of Parliament to collaborate to prevent any issues,” she stated.
Madam Ocloo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting all flood victims and encouraged district assemblies to work closely with Members of Parliament to identify affected households and respond to their needs promptly.
She highlighted that transparency and accountability are essential for restoring public confidence and ensuring that relief items reach those most in need.
The Minister also noted that the government remains committed to assisting communities that suffered losses due to the heavy rainfall, which triggered widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region, damaging homes, businesses, and other properties.
