The Presidency has issued an urgent public safety advisory, calling on residents in flood-affected communities to remain vigilant and strictly comply with emergency directives as heavy rainfall continues to trigger flooding in parts of the country.

In a statement released on Monday, June 29, 2026, the Presidency urged residents in affected areas to stay indoors if they are already in a safe location and avoid unnecessary movement while the rains continue.

It advised those whose homes are being inundated by floodwaters to evacuate immediately to higher ground and contact the national emergency hotline, 112, for assistance.

The Presidency also warned motorists against driving through flooded roads, specifically identifying the Mallam–Kasoa Road, Alajo and Graphic Road as areas to avoid due to flooding.

Drivers who encounter floodwaters have been urged to turn around rather than attempt to cross submerged roads and instead seek safer, elevated routes.

To minimise the risk of electrocution, the statement further advised the public to unplug electrical appliances and stay away from electrical poles, transformers and fallen power lines that may have been affected by the flooding.

The Presidency emphasised that public safety remains the government’s top priority and urged residents to monitor official updates and comply with all emergency instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

“Your safety is paramount,” the statement stressed, encouraging the public to remain alert and prioritise their well-being until weather conditions improve.
