The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to immediately deploy emergency response teams to communities affected by flooding following Monday’s heavy rains.
In a statement, the Minister expressed sympathy to residents who have suffered losses, displacement and other hardships as a result of the floods, assuring them that the government stands with them during this difficult period.
“My heart goes out to all individuals and families who have been affected by this unfortunate incident. I sincerely sympathise with those who have suffered losses, displacement and other hardships, and I want to assure every affected resident that you are not alone,” the statement said.
The Minister said the safety and well-being of residents remain the top priority and has instructed MMDCEs to work closely with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), emergency response teams and technical officers to intensify rescue operations.
According to the statement, the assemblies have been tasked to evacuate residents trapped by floodwaters where necessary, assess the extent of the damage and provide immediate relief to affected persons.
“Every MMDCE is expected to remain fully engaged until the situation is brought under control. This is a time for decisive leadership and swift action,” the Minister stressed.
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the statement noted, is collaborating with NADMO, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and other emergency response agencies to coordinate rescue efforts and protect lives and property.
With the Ghana Meteorological Agency forecasting more rainfall, residents have been urged to exercise extreme caution by avoiding unnecessary travel, staying indoors where possible and staying away from flood-prone areas, drains and fast-flowing floodwaters.
The Minister also appealed to parents and guardians to ensure children are kept away from floodwaters and not allowed to cross flooded roads or drains.

The Minister further called on the public to cooperate with emergency personnel and comply with all safety directives issued by the authorities.
