Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has urged residents of his constituency to prioritise their safety following heavy rains that triggered flooding in parts of Accra on Monday morning.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the MP assured constituents of his readiness to provide emergency support to those affected by the floods.
“Please, if you are in Ayawaso West, stay safe and kindly comment here if you need any emergency assistance ASAP. Thanks. I am on standby,” he wrote.
His appeal comes as torrential rains left several roads and low-lying communities flooded, disrupting movement and raising concerns over public safety.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has deployed emergency response teams, including personnel from the security services and disaster management agencies, to flood-affected areas across the country.
In a public advisory, the Ministry urged residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel as floodwaters continue to inundate roads, bridges, and vulnerable communities.
“Residents at home have been advised to stay indoors, while those at workplaces or other secure areas are encouraged to remain there until it is safe to travel,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry also warned motorists and pedestrians against attempting to cross flooded roads or waterways, stressing that water levels can rise rapidly and pose serious risks to life and property.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with emergency responders and adhere to official safety directives until flood conditions subside.
Please if you are in Ayawaso West, please stay safe and please comment here if you need any emergency assistance ASAP. Thanks. I am on stand by
