The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, joined the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in laying wreaths in honour of the Government and people of Rwanda during the Kwibuka 32 commemoration held at Burma Camp in Accra.

The solemn ceremony, organised by the Rwanda High Commission in Ghana, marked the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

It brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, security personnel and other dignitaries to reflect on the tragedy and reaffirm commitment to peace, unity and human dignity.

As part of the event under the theme “Remember – Unite – Renew,” a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the cenotaphs in memory of the victims, symbolising solidarity with the people of Rwanda and honouring those who lost their lives in one of the darkest chapters in modern history.

Delivering the keynote address as Guest of Honour, Okudzeto Ablakwa said the commemoration should go beyond remembrance and serve as a renewed call to protect future generations from genocide and similar atrocities.

He also highlighted Ghana’s special connection to the event, pointing to the shared values of humanity and peace between the two countries.

He further paid tribute to members of the Ghana Armed Forces who served under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Rwanda during the genocide, praising their courage, professionalism and commitment to protecting lives in a difficult period.

The High Commissioner of Rwanda to Ghana, Her Excellency Rosemary Mbabazi, also mentioned unity as a key pillar for sustaining peace and development.
