International reggae star Gramps Morgan has revealed that DNA test results show he is 46% Ghanaian, a discovery he says has deepened his connection to Africa and strengthened his understanding of his ancestral roots.
The Jamaican artiste made the revelation while performing at the high-level consultative conference on “Next Steps” under the United Nations Resolution on enslaved Africans, held in Accra on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Speaking to participants, Gramps Morgan said the DNA findings form part of his personal journey to uncover the truth about his heritage and trace his lineage back to Ghana.
“I am one of the children of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. I have done research to find out the truth. When I did a DNA test, I found out that I am 46% Ghanaian. So let the truth be told,” he said.
According to the reggae star, the discovery has further strengthened his bond with the African continent and the shared history of enslaved Africans in the diaspora.
He also reaffirmed his support for calls for reparations, a cause currently being championed by Ghana as part of broader efforts to seek justice and recognition for descendants of enslaved Africans.
The conference brought together world leaders, diplomats, and other stakeholders to discuss the next steps in implementing the United Nations framework on the legacy of slavery and its continuing impact on descendants of enslaved Africans around the world.
