A devastating fire has destroyed a 25-room house at Assin Akropong in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region, rendering the caretaker’s family and several tenants homeless.
The blaze, which occurred in the community under circumstances yet to be determined, destroyed household property worth thousands of Ghana cedis, including electrical appliances, mattresses, clothing and other personal belongings.
The caretaker of the property, 54-year-old Ama Aboagyewaa, said she was returning from Assin Fosu when she received a phone call informing her that the building had caught fire.
According to her, most of the occupants were away from home at the time of the incident, with only one person inside the house when the fire broke out.
She said residents in the area quickly intervened to rescue the occupant and salvage a few belongings before the flames engulfed the structure.
Although no injuries or fatalities were recorded, the fire caused extensive damage to the property and displaced several residents.
Mrs. Aboagyewaa disclosed that personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the scene but encountered difficulties in battling the blaze due to inadequate water supply.
Meanwhile, the Assin Fosu Municipal Fire Officer, DOI Paul Tawiah, said investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the fire.
He urged the public to report fire outbreaks promptly to enable firefighters to respond quickly and prevent extensive damage.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by the Assin Fosu Municipal Director, Lawrence Darkwah Monney, later visited the scene to assess the destruction.
Mr. Monney assured the affected victims that a report on the incident had been forwarded to the Regional Office to facilitate support and relief assistance for those displaced by the fire.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations while efforts are made to provide aid to the affected families.
