Melcom Group has clarified reports linking it to the building that collapsed at Avenor in Accra, stressing that the structure is neither owned by nor associated with the retail chain.
The clarification follows the collapse of a building at the North Industrial Area on Sunday, which claimed one life and triggered a major emergency response operation.
The incident occurred at about 4:25 a.m., prompting personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to conduct rescue and recovery operations at the scene.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Sunday, Melcom explained that although the collapsed building is located near Ashfoam and Melcom Plus, none of its properties were affected by the incident.
“While we express our sympathies to all those who might have been impacted by the collapse, we wish to assure our cherished customers, business partners, employees, and the general public that none of our buildings or facilities at Avenor or anywhere else in the country have collapsed,” the company stated.
Melcom further emphasised that it maintains strict standards regarding the structural integrity, safety and maintenance of all its buildings and operational facilities nationwide.
The company assured customers that all its outlets, including Melcom Plus and other stores across the country, remain safe, secure and fully operational.
It encouraged the public to continue patronising its stores with confidence, noting that the safety of customers, staff and visitors remains a top priority.
Melcom also expressed solidarity with those affected by the disaster and said it would continue to monitor developments while wishing victims a speedy recovery.
