Desmond Offei will lead Ghana’s senior national team in Saturday’s international friendly against Mexico in Puebla following the absence of head coach Carlos Queiroz, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.

Queiroz will miss the encounter due to personal reasons, leaving Offei in charge of the Black Stars for the high-profile clash in North America.

Assistant coach Roger De Sa will also be unavailable for the match, further reshaping Ghana’s technical bench for the friendly.

Offei will be supported by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar, alongside set-piece coach and video analyst Gregory De Grauwe, as Ghana continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A total of 22 players are currently in camp ahead of the Mexico showdown, which forms part of the Black Stars’ build-up toward the global tournament.

The game will be broadcasted on Adom TV with live commentary on Adom FM and Asempa FM.

Following the Mexico fixture, Ghana will continue their preparations with additional friendly matches against Wales on June 2 and Jamaica on June 10.

The three games are expected to play a crucial role in assessing players and finalising plans ahead of Carlos Queiroz’s announcement of his final World Cup squad on June 1.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama as they pursue a first FIFA World Cup knockout-stage qualification since their historic run at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17 before taking on England in Boston on June 23. The Black Stars will conclude their group-stage campaign against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
