The Paramount Chief of the Tamale Divisional Area, Idrissu Mohammed, has appealed to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to prioritise the persistent water challenges affecting Tamale and surrounding communities.
According to him, the people of Lamashegu have remained loyal supporters of the NDC since 1992 and expect the government to address their pressing developmental concerns.
Speaking during the thank-you tour of NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in the community, the chief described Lamashegu as one of the strongest support bases of the party.
“Lamashegu has been the Ketu South of the NDC and the Manhyia of the NDC from 1992 up to date. Nothing has changed in terms of voting or numbers for the NDC,” he said.
He stated that the consistent electoral support from the people of Lamashegu demonstrates their loyalty and commitment to the party.
“On this regard, nobody will doubt the loyalty of the people of Lamashegu to the NDC,” he added.
The chief, however, noted that despite their support, residents continue to face major challenges, particularly access to water in Tamale.
“However, we equally have our own demands. As citizens and also as committed party members, we have our challenges, notable among such is our water situation in Tamale,” he stated.
He appealed to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, as National Chairman of the NDC, to relay their concerns to government and cabinet.
“We appeal to the chairman of the National Democratic Congress, being the head of the party, to re-echo and remind cabinet that this issue has been a matter of concern for us,” he said.
According to the Paramount Chief, urgent action is needed to resolve the water crisis before the NDC completes its first term in office.
“Something must be done before the NDC ends its first term in office,” he stressed.
