The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has announced the postponement of the implementation of the revised Container Administrative Charge (CAC) following an intervention by the Ministry of Transport.
According to the Authority, the revised charges, which were originally scheduled to take effect on May 1, 2026, will now be implemented on July 1, 2026.
The GSA explained that the extension is intended to allow for broader stakeholder consultations and engagements to ensure the final fee structure reflects the interests of all parties within the shipping and logistics sector.
Meanwhile, the Transport Ministry has directed the immediate introduction of an interim regulatory cap on the Container Administrative Charge.
Under the directive, the charge must not exceed GH¢720 per Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) for both import and export containers until a final decision is taken in July.
The Authority has urged shipping lines, importers, exporters, and other industry stakeholders to take note of the directive and comply fully with the interim measures.
The Container Administrative Charge forms part of port-related administrative fees within Ghana’s shipping industry and has recently generated discussions among stakeholders over its potential impact on trade and logistics costs.
