Veteran Ghanaian actor Alexander Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has temporarily withdrawn a civil suit filed against George Oti Bonsu and The Base Movement at the Accra High Court to allow ongoing peace and settlement discussions to continue.

Counsel for Alexander Kofi Adu disclosed this in an interview with Adom News’ Thomas Agyei on Friday after court proceedings.

According to the lawyer, the decision followed interventions by elders and leaders connected to the matter, who advised both parties to pursue an amicable settlement outside the courtroom.

“Well, before we came to court last week, so many things went on behind the scenes from the elders of the organisations, advising that we should smoke the peace pipe,” he stated.

He explained that the withdrawal is temporary and comes with liberty to reapply should the settlement process fail.

“Therefore, we thought twice to withdraw the matter for now with liberty to apply if we are not able to make headway with whatever settlement procedures that we are going on,” he added.

The lawyer said Friday’s proceedings were mainly to formally notify the court of the decision to suspend the legal action while discussions continue.

“So for today, what happened in court is that we have withdrawn the civil writ, waiting for the peace and settlement processes to go on,” he explained.

He further revealed that certain conditions had been outlined for both parties as part of the settlement efforts and expressed hope that those terms would be honoured.

“They met us behind closed doors last week to advise that we should withdraw the matter. And they have given conditions to both parties. We are only waiting for those conditions to be met,” he said.

However, he cautioned that the matter could return to court if the peace process does not succeed.

“If we are not able to meet those conditions and there is the need for us to go ahead, you’ll see us in court,” he stressed.

The matter, currently before the Accra High Court, centres on disputes over the use of the name and branding associated with the two groups.

According to court filings, Base Ghana First LBG, which split from The Base Movement founded by Agya Koo, is accusing the latter of misrepresenting itself and using its identity in a manner that allegedly misleads the public.

The plaintiff further alleges that some national executives were removed from official communication platforms and that activities of the original movement were suspended without proper consultation or due process.

The suit also accuses the leadership of The Base Movement of forming a nine-member executive council contrary to the organisation’s established rules.
