Women in Nsoatre are being urged to pay closer attention to their health as cases of diabetes and hypertension continue to rise, resulting in increasing deaths among women in the area.

The warning was issued by a medical officer at the Nsoatre Government Hospital during a women’s empowerment programme organised by the Evelyn Akantoa Foundation.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Gloria Asare described the situation as alarming and a growing public health concern.

According to her, many women report late to health facilities only after developing complications, making treatment difficult and increasing the risk of death.

She attributed the rising cases to unhealthy lifestyles, poor eating habits, stress, lack of regular exercise and failure to undergo routine medical check-ups.

Dr. Asare disclosed that about two out of every 20 women diagnosed with the conditions die from related complications, stressing the urgent need for awareness and early medical intervention.

The programme formed part of the Evelyn Akantoa Foundation’s annual initiative to celebrate and empower women in the community.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation encouraged women to believe in themselves and pursue leadership opportunities despite societal challenges and pressure.

She also urged women to take advantage of opportunities created under the Affirmative Action Bill to improve female representation and participation in leadership and decision-making.
