Member of Ghanaian music duo Keche, Joshua Kojo Ampah, has responded to suggestions that the group’s recent award win would have been different if other strong competitors had been included in the category.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, he said some critics had argued that if the duo DopeNation had been part of the category, Keche would not have won the Best Group award.

He, however, dismissed the claims, stressing that the award recognises the “Best Group of the Year” and not a “Group Song of the Year,” noting that the two should not be confused.

According to him, the category evaluates overall group performance and consistency rather than a single hit song.

He added that Keche had an active and demanding year, performing at multiple events across the country from September through the festive season into early January.

“We were everywhere… actively last year,” he said, insisting that the group’s visibility and performance calendar made them deserving winners regardless of competition.

He further argued that award decisions should not be reduced to comparisons between individual songs or rival groups, but rather overall contribution within the year under review.

The comments have since sparked debate among fans online, with some supporting his position while others continue to question the competitiveness of the category.
