Ghanaian sprinters Abdul-Raheed Saminu and Joseph Paul Amoah have secured qualification to the men’s 100m final at the ongoing 24th African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra.
The pair booked their spots in the final after impressive performances in their respective semifinal heats on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Saminu advanced after winning Heat 2, while Amoah also finished top of Heat 3 with a time of 10.37 seconds to seal qualification.
However, it was disappointment for fellow Ghanaian sprinter Edwin Gadayi, who failed to progress after finishing last in Heat 2, which was won by Saminu.
The performances of Saminu and Amoah thrilled the home supporters as Ghana continues its quest for medals at the continental event.
The men’s 100m final is expected to be one of the major highlights of the championships, with both athletes aiming to deliver strong performances in front of the home crowd at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
