The Agona West Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Essendoh, has been released from the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) following his arrest over alleged false publication.
Essendoh was reportedly arrested after making a social media post claiming that “dumsor”—a term commonly used to describe persistent power outages in Ghana—had returned. The post was accompanied by an image of a billboard bearing the President’s picture alongside the inscription.
The arrest raised concerns within the NPP leadership, which questioned the circumstances surrounding his detention and described it as unlawful.
Party officials also expressed worry over his whereabouts after unsuccessful attempts to locate him at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters and National Security offices.
However, a subsequent visit to the BNI offices at Kawkudi confirmed that Essendoh had been in custody since his arrest.
He was later released after bail conditions were met, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.
