Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Mark Addo, has praised the Ghana women’s national under-20 football team following their qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup later this year.
Ghana secured their place at the tournament after a 3-2 aggregate victory over Uganda women’s national under-20 football team. The Black Princesses recorded a 2-1 win in the first leg in Accra before battling to a 1-1 draw in the return fixture in Kampala over the weekend.
Speaking to the team upon their return to Accra on Monday, Mr Addo commended their resilience and urged them to build on the achievement as they prepare for the global stage.
“What this team has achieved is no small feat. When the odds were against you — a goal down and a player sent off — your resilience and hard work delivered the result that secured World Cup qualification,” he said.
He also highlighted the team’s consistency, noting that the qualification marks Ghana’s eighth consecutive appearance at the tournament.
“This team has done remarkably well by qualifying for eight consecutive World Cups. Now is the time to go and perform and go beyond the group stage,” he added.
Mr Addo further encouraged the players to celebrate the achievement briefly before turning their attention to preparations for the competition.
“Take time to enjoy this moment for a few days, but the real work begins now ahead of September, when the World Cup starts,” he said.
He concluded by conveying messages of support from the GFA leadership and the nation.
“On behalf of President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, the Executive Council and the entire nation, we are proud of you. Congratulations on this historic achievement.”
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held in Poland from September 5 to 27, 2026.
