Award-winning Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has opened up about an emotional conversation with his mother just hours before he was crowned Artiste of the Year at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

He disclosed that around midday, he called his mother, and what started as a simple conversation turned into a deeply spiritual moment.

“For four minutes straight, she was just praying and giving thanks. She wasn’t even talking to me,” he recounted.

Black Sherif said after the prayers, his mother blessed him, wished him well, and encouraged him to go for the ultimate prize.

Speaking about the memorable day, Black Sherif revealed that the awards ceremony coincidentally fell on Mother’s Day, making the moment even more emotional for him.

According to the musician, his mother does not live in Ghana, and at some point during the day, he found himself wishing she was present in the crowd to witness the milestone moment.

Black Sherif also reflected on the distance between him and his parents, explaining that over time, they have all come to terms with the realities of his career and lifestyle.

“There is an understanding between me and my parents about our distance. It’s not anything alarming anymore or troubling. They just know it is what it is,” he said.

Despite the physical distance, Black Sherif noted that the family put everything aside to celebrate the special moment together after his historic win.

As of May 2026, Black Sherif has won more than 37 career awards, making him one of the most decorated Ghanaian artistes of his generation.
