Andre Ayew’s NAC Breda are staring at relegation from the Dutch Eredivisie after their survival hopes suffered a significant setback in the closing stages of the season.

The club currently sit 17th on the league table, six points adrift of FC Volendam in 16th place, and now face a must-win situation in their final two matches while relying on results elsewhere going their way to avoid the drop.

Their fight for survival was further complicated after Breda lost an appeal seeking a replay of their controversial clash against Go Ahead Eagles.

The club had argued that the opposition fielded an ineligible player, but both the Dutch Football Association and later the court rejected the claim, ruling that the federation holds final discretion over such decisions.

The ruling effectively ended NAC Breda’s hopes of altering that result, leaving them to battle solely on the pitch to secure their top-flight status.

Ayew, Ghana’s all-time appearance leader for the Black Stars, joined the Dutch side in January and has scored once in 15 league appearances so far.

The experienced forward is expected to feature this weekend when NAC Breda face Heerenveen on Sunday, May 10, in a crucial fixture for their survival hopes.
