The chiefs and people of Manso Aboaboso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, May 7, 2026, held a mass protest against poor mobile network connectivity and deplorable road conditions in the area.

Clad in red attire and carrying red banners, the protesters marched through the principal streets of the town to express their frustration over what they described as years of neglect by authorities and telecommunication companies.

During the demonstration, the residents threatened to boycott all forms of elections in 2028 if the government and relevant stakeholders fail to address their concerns.

Some of the placards displayed by the protesters read: “We Need Network,” “MTN and Telecel, Come to Aboaboso,” “Can Politicians Visit Us Again?” and “No Network, No Votes.” The demonstrators also chanted slogans demanding urgent intervention.

Speaking to Adom News, some residents disclosed that they are often forced to climb trees or travel to distant locations before they can access mobile network services.

According to them, the poor network connectivity poses serious security and communication challenges, making it difficult for residents to make emergency calls or receive important information.

“Aboaboso is not a village. We are a community with a population of over 3,000 people, yet we do not have access to reliable network services. This situation is exposing us to serious security threats because we are unable to make or receive calls, whether it is good news or bad news,” some of the protesters lamented.

Other residents also claimed that the lack of network and poor road infrastructure are discouraging teachers, nurses, and other government workers from accepting postings to the area.

They accused politicians of repeatedly making campaign promises concerning the network and roads during election periods but failing to fulfil them after assuming office.

“We have been suffering for a very long time, yet politicians continue to make empty promises anytime elections approach. If this issue is not resolved before 2028, we will not vote. Any politician who step foot in this community will be hooted at,” the protesters warned.

The Assembly Member for the Aboaboso Electoral Area, Samuel Agyemang, revealed that several complaints have been lodged with the district assembly, but no concrete action has been taken.

“The whole Aboaboso community gathers in front of my shop just to make phone calls because that is where people are able to get network connectivity. We do not even have privacy when making calls. It is very disheartening, and we are appealing to the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation to intervene as soon as possible,” he stated.

The Chief of Manso Aboaboso, Nana Amponsah Kodua II, also expressed support for the concerns raised by the residents, describing the situation as a major setback to the development of the community.

“I support my people’s position of ‘No Network, No Vote’ because this community has been neglected for far too long,” he stressed.

Residents say more than 3,000 people living in the community continue to struggle without reliable telecommunications services, a situation they say is hindering socio-economic development and posing a serious national security threat.

They called on government, Ministry of Roads and Highways, and telecommunication providers to urgently address the challenges facing the community.
