Africa’s celebrated music icon Kojo Antwi has been pencilled to perform as the headline act at the 2026 Europe Day reception marking the Golden Jubilee of the European Union (EU) and Ghana partnership.

The Ghana-EU relationship dates back to 1976, symbolising five decades of cooperation and friendship.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at exactly 6:00 p.m., commemorating 50 years of cordial relations between Ghana and the EU in business, trade, diplomacy, and shared values.

Europe Day is one of the largest diplomatic gatherings in Accra, bringing together an estimated 600 members of the diplomatic corps and government officials.

The 2026 edition is themed “Golden Bridge”, reflecting on five decades of Ghana’s partnership with the European Union.

The evening will have a strong cultural focus, hence the selection of Kojo Antwi, known for his timeless blend of highlife and Euro-Afro soul.

An invitation to the Maestro and his team, signed by Rune Skinnebach on behalf of the EU and dated Wednesday, May 6, 2026, stated: “We therefore cannot think of any better artist to lift this special occasion to new levels of entertainment and national pride.”

The invitation further noted: “We hope this event will transform into sustained collaboration and partnership in the future.”

Kojo Antwi, affectionately known as “Mr Music Man” and “The Maestro”, is regarded as a true icon of African music.

With 13 critically acclaimed albums, he has produced timeless hits that have earned him the reputation as the King of Love Songs.

From his early days performing across Europe with his first band to building a successful solo career, his journey has been marked by passion, resilience, and excellence, consistently projecting Ghana on the global stage.

Beyond music, his influence has shaped generations of artists. He recently released his memoir, “Mr Music Man: The Journey”, a reflection on his life, artistry, and legacy.

The EU’s choice of Kojo Antwi underscores the celebration of not just a performer, but a cultural icon whose music continues to resonate across generations.
