The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has handed Hohoe United FC a four-year suspension from all domestic competitions, ruling the club out of action until the 2029/30 football season.

The sanction, announced on Friday, May 1, 2026, follows the club’s unilateral withdrawal from the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign, an act found to be in breach of Article 13 of the league’s regulations.

Hohoe United had cited systemic unfairness as the reason behind their decision to pull out of the Ghanaian top-flight competition.

According to findings by the Committee, the club officially informed the GFA of its intention to withdraw on April 1, 2026, prompting disciplinary proceedings that have now resulted in the heavy punishment.

In addition to the suspension, all registered players of Hohoe United are to be granted free agent status through the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee. However, any contractual obligations relating to previous transfers will remain in force.

The ruling allows affected players to pursue moves elsewhere while preserving existing agreements.

The Committee also ordered the club to refund all support received from the GFA during the 2025/26 season, including financial assistance and logistical provisions such as equipment.

It further stressed that the suspension does not cancel any outstanding debts or financial liabilities owed by the club to the GFA or other affiliated parties.

Once the suspension period ends, Hohoe United will not regain automatic entry into top-flight football. Instead, the club will restart from Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.

Under GFA statutes, any party dissatisfied with the ruling has three days from the date of notification to file an appeal before the Appeals Committee.
