In a move to ensure transparency and value for money, a high-level delegation from the National Ambulance Service has briefed the Ministry of Defence on the upcoming technical evaluation of ambulances destined for the Ghana Armed Forces.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters (The Square), was led by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kofi Owusu.
He met with the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Chief Director, and other senior directors to discuss the roadmap for the acquisition.
The primary focus of the discussions was to ensure the ambulances meet the specific operational requirements of the military.
Dr. Owusu revealed that, following legal advice from the Attorney General regarding a previous procurement of 30 ambulances in 2016, the NAS Board has decided to involve an independent third party for quality assurance.
The State Transport Company has been engaged to conduct a rigorous technical assessment of the vehicles. This step is intended to provide an unbiased verification of the ambulances’ mechanical and medical readiness.
Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi commended the NAS for its commitment to due process, stressing that maintaining high national standards and transparency remains the government’s top priority in the procurement process.
Following the briefing, the Deputy Minister granted official clearance for the NAS to proceed with the STC-led technical assessment. The collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the National Ambulance Service, and the Ministry of Defence marks a significant step toward strengthening the emergency medical capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces.
