A recovery team made up of community members and security agencies is in desperate search of a 20-year-old water tanker attendant who drowned in a water-filled quarry pit in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased, identified as Kwame Owusu, and his driver had gone to the MMM Quarry Limited site located in Mpobi in the Afigya Kwabre South District to fetch water for an ongoing construction project when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses say Owusu entered the deep pit to swim while the tanker was being filled but was pulled underneath by a strong water current and did not resurface.
The incident is reported to have occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Attempts by members of the community to rescue him proved futile, prompting calls for a rescue team from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police in the area.
After a desperate search across the pit, the body was not retrieved on the day.
The search operations resumed on Wednesday morning after traditional authorities in Mpobi performed rites facilitate recovery efforts.
The rites, according to the traditional leaders, are a customary requirement whenever such incidents occur in water bodies in the community.
The body has since not been recovered as of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 24 hours after the incident.
Security agencies and the rescue team are still in the pit in a frantic search for the body.
