Residents along the Tema–Afienya–Akosombo road stretch have criticised government and contractors over what they describe as a sudden demolition exercise carried out without compensation.
The operation, led by a joint team of military and police personnel, began early in the day, leaving several shops and homes flattened.
The exercise has caused widespread damage, with affected residents unable to salvage their belongings as bulldozers moved in under heavy security presence.
“Our shops and homes have been destroyed. We were not given any chance to take out our things,” one resident told Adom News.
Many of the victims claim they had been assured of compensation prior to the exercise but say those promises were not fulfilled.
“They kept telling us compensation would be paid, but we woke up to see soldiers and police pulling everything down. Years of investment are gone,” another affected trader lamented.
The situation reportedly turned tense at some points, with residents alleging that attempts to engage security personnel were met with force.
“Some people who tried to get closer were pushed back, and others say they got injured in the process,” a witness said, adding that some containers were demolished with goods still inside.
Adom News reporter Ohene Amponsah, who is at the scene, reports that security officers have restricted access, making it difficult to engage officials or obtain clarification on the exercise.
The demolition is believed to be part of ongoing works on the Tema–Afienya–Akosombo road project, but affected residents insist the process has been poorly handled.
They are calling on authorities to urgently address their concerns and ensure compensation is paid as previously promised.
