Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has lauded veteran legal practitioner Tsatsu Tsikata for his immense contribution to the development of Ghana’s legal system, describing his career as a model for both current and aspiring lawyers.

Speaking at the UPSA Law School Honorific Lecture and Award Ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, April 15, the Chief Justice said Mr Tsikata’s professional journey underscores the importance of service to justice over personal accolades.

According to him, success in the legal profession should not be measured solely by individual achievements, but by the extent to which one’s work advances justice and strengthens national institutions.

“The career of Mr Tsikata offers important lessons. It teaches us that professional success is best measured not solely by personal achievement but by the extent to which one’s work contributes to the advancement of justice and the strengthening of institutions,” he stated.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie further emphasised the critical role of ethics and intellectual rigour in the practice of law, noting that these values are essential in ensuring the effectiveness of the legal system.

“It reminds us that the law is most effective when guarded by ethical conviction and intellectual discipline,” he added.

He also commended the UPSA Law School for honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to Ghana’s legal tradition, describing such recognition as vital in upholding professional standards.

“On behalf of the judiciary, I commend the UPSA Law School for recognising individuals whose work has enriched Ghana’s legal tradition. Such recognition strengthens the values that sustain our profession and reinforces the standards to which we must continually aspire,” he said.

The Chief Justice highlighted Mr Tsikata’s influence on constitutional law, legal scholarship, and advocacy, describing his legacy as both profound and enduring.

“Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, your contribution to the law has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s legal landscape. Your work has helped shape the contours of constitutional debate, enriched legal scholarship, and strengthened the practice of advocacy. The respect you command across the legal community is a reflection of a lifetime devoted to the pursuit of legal excellence,” he noted.
