MCE pledges to cover medical bills, funeral costs for victims of Lower Manya Krobo fire

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for [“place”,”Lower Manya Krobo”,”Eastern Region, Ghana”], John Atteh Matey, has pledged to cover the medical bills of a survivor and support funeral arrangements for victims of a fatal domestic fire outbreak at Kodjonya.

The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 31, 2026, claimed the lives of two people — a man and his wife — who were reportedly burnt beyond recognition while asleep.

Their young child was rescued from the blaze but sustained severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the emergency ward of the Akuse Government Hospital. Authorities say the survivor is in stable condition.

Following a visit to both the scene of the incident and the hospital, the MCE expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved family. He assured them of the Assembly’s full support during this difficult time.

“I have pledged to cover the medical bills of the injured victim and assist the family with funeral arrangements,” he stated.

Mr. Matey also commended the swift response of security agencies, rescue teams, NADMO officials, and residents who assisted in managing the situation and supporting affected persons.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as investigations continue.
