Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has advised the governing body to avoid rushing into the appointment of a new head coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Otto Addo.
The call comes in the wake of the GFA’s decision to part ways with Addo after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday.
The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach had already come under intense scrutiny after the Black Stars suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna during their previous friendly.
With the FIFA World Cup fast approaching, Afriyie stressed the need for careful planning and wider consultations before naming a successor.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, he insisted that the focus should extend beyond the tournament itself.
“There should be no rush to appoint a new coach,” he said.
“The FA must carry out broader consultations and appoint a good coach not just for the World Cup, but also for a long-term project beyond it,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for their next round of international friendlies, beginning with a fixture against Mexico before facing Wales in their final preparatory match ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana, set for its fifth appearance at the World Cup, has been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia.
