The streets of Gamashie came alive on August 1 as more than 6,000 people joined the 2026 Ga Homowo Health Walk, turning the annual event into a colourful celebration of health, culture and community ahead of this year’s Homowo Festival.
Supported by Bills Micro Credit Limited, participants set off from Mantse Agbona and walked through Makola, Arena, Korle Bu, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi and Chorkor before finishing at Bannerman Road.
The event started with free health screening before the walk, while the finishing point transformed into a mini festival, with traditional games, cash prizes, music and entertainment keeping participants engaged.
Patrons competed in ludo, card games and other recreational activities for cash prizes, while performances by Akosua Agyapong, King Jerry, Adane Best and Adotey Tetor added to the excitement.
Speaking during the event, Nuumo Nikoi Amasah II, Klan Wulomo and Vice President of the Ga Adangbe Wulomei Council, thanked the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Traditional Council, Bills Micro Credit and the company’s Founder, Richard Nii-Armah Quaye, for their continued support for the annual Health Walk.
He explained that the walk is organised every year ahead of the Homowo Festival to unite the Ga people before the celebrations begin.
He called on all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, religious belief or ethnic background, to embrace the initiative, stressing that peace and unity remain essential to the development of both the Ga State and the nation.
Representing Bills Micro Credit, the company’s Marketing Manager, Nana Ama Anderson, said supporting traditional festivals has become an important part of the company’s commitment to the communities it serves.
She noted that since 2024, Bills Micro Credit has partnered with traditional councils to support major festivals across Ghana, including Homowo, Fetu Afahye, Odwira and Hogbetsotso.
According to her, the company believes that culture is central to Ghana’s identity and that empowering communities goes beyond providing financial services.
“As a company, we empower individuals and businesses financially, but we also believe in supporting the communities they belong to. That is why initiatives like the Ga Homowo Health Walk are important to us,” she said.
Ahead of the event, Bills Micro Credit presented a sponsorship package valued at GH¢350,000, comprising cash, 5,000 event shirts, drinking water, beverages and other logistics to support the successful organisation of the Health Walk.
The annual event continues to grow in popularity, attracting thousands of participants and reinforcing the importance of healthy living, cultural pride and unity as the Ga State prepares to celebrate the Homowo Festival.
