The United States Embassy in Ghana has opened more than 2,000 B1/B2 visa appointment slots over the next two weeks, offering opportunities for business travellers, tourists, and individuals visiting family.
The announcement also highlighted fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.
In a statement, the Embassy urged prospective applicants to take advantage of the newly available appointments.
“We have more than 2,000 visa appointment slots available in the next two weeks for B1/B2 travellers — whether you’re planning a business trip, visiting family, general tourism, or wanting to watch the World Cup,” the statement said.
Applicants with appointments scheduled later in the year have been encouraged to reschedule to earlier dates to meet the increased demand. B1/B2 visas cover both business and tourism purposes, and interviews must be booked through the official visa application website. The Embassy also reminded applicants to ensure they prepare all necessary documentation before attending their interview.
The announcement comes amid growing excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the Ghana national football team set to make their fifth appearance at the tournament.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team. Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Black Stars will regroup in March for friendly matches against Austria national football team and Germany national football team, before taking on Mexico national football team in May and concluding their preparations with a match against Wales national football team on June 2.
During the tournament, the team will be based at Bryant University in the United States.
After group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger performance in North America.
The Embassy clarified that the newly opened visa appointment slots are available to all eligible B1/B2 applicants and are not limited to travellers attending the World Cup.
