The Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has declared that Ghana is aiming for the final at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament this summer, drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Reflecting on past disappointments—Ghana exited at the group stage in both the 2014 and 2022 World Cups—Adams emphasized that this year’s squad is determined to go all the way.
“Our intention is to stay there until the last game. So you have to prepare,” the Buem MP told Citi Sports.
“You don’t get there, and when you are doing well, before you start calling for that to happen, because once you have qualified, you have to plan ahead, and I saw that some people were a bit worried.
“Why do we have to do it? But we are going in there with the mindset that we will stay all the way to the end,” Adams added.
Ghana will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and wrap up group stage play with a match against Croatia on June 27.
In preparation, the Black Stars will regroup in March for friendlies against Austria and Germany, before concluding their build-up with a match against Mexico in May.
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that the team will be based at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the tournament.
