Residents of Asante Akyem Central in the Ashanti Region have expressed appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, and the government for the construction of 28 boreholes between September and December 2025, aimed at easing the area’s water shortage challenges.
The group’s convenor described the initiative as unprecedented and worthy of recognition for its impact on the community.
Illegal mining activities continue to affect Asante Akyem Central, posing serious risks to health and the environment, particularly in relation to water quality for drinking and domestic use.
Analysis of river water samples from the area revealed elevated levels of several physicochemical parameters linked to mining, making the water unsuitable for household purposes.
Asante Akyem Central is primarily an agricultural community and is one of the forty-three districts that make up the Ashanti Region.
