The Ejisu Municipal Transport Union has staged a protest against the government over the deplorable condition of the Ejisu–Onwe road, citing serious safety risks and economic hardship faced by drivers and commuters.
According to the union, the road has been abandoned for nearly two years, a situation they say has severely disrupted transportation activities and livelihoods within the area.
The deteriorated state of the road has forced many commercial drivers to withdraw their services, making movement along the stretch extremely difficult.
Some commuters in an interview with Adom News expressed frustration over the scarcity of vehicles on the route, saying that they are often compelled to trek long distances between Ejisu and Onwe.

“Most drivers have stopped working on this road because of its poor condition. Those who still operate here charge excessive fares, especially in the evening. We are suffering and need urgent help,” one commuter lamented.
Another resident, Mary Oduom, who recently underwent surgery, shared her ordeal using the road. She explained that traveling on the stretch poses a serious health risk to her condition.
“Whenever I board a commercial vehicle, I beg the driver to reduce speed. Any small mistake could cause me serious harm,” she said.

Leading the protest, the Chairman of the Ejisu Municipal Transport Union, Kwaku Akyempem, appealed to the government to include the Ejisu–Onwe road in the proposed Big Push infrastructure project.
He revealed that many drivers have lost their jobs after vehicle owners withdrew their cars due to frequent breakdowns caused by the poor road network.
“Most of our vehicles have been taken away by their owners, leaving drivers unemployed,” he stated.

Mr. Akyempem appreciated the recent reduction in fuel prices but stressed the urgent need for road construction.
