The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has expressed deep sympathy to a bereaved family following the drowning of a six-year-old boy at Kasoa Wallantu in the Central Region.
The tragic incident occurred at a compound house located at House Number CB 180, where the child, identified as Godfred Aboagye, drowned in an open water storage tank.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at about 5:03pm on Monday, December 29, 2025. A rescue team was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene within ten minutes.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the young boy had already drowned in the uncovered tank within the compound. Rescue operations were swiftly carried out, and the child’s body was retrieved at approximately 5:28pm.
The body was subsequently handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.
Preliminary findings suggest that the boy was playing with a ball when it accidentally fell into the water tank. In an attempt to retrieve it, he reportedly entered the tank and drowned.
In the wake of the incident, GNFS has issued a strong caution to parents, guardians, and property owners to ensure that all water storage facilities, including tanks, wells, and pits, are properly covered, especially in homes where children live or play.
The Service reiterated its commitment to public safety education on drowning prevention and encouraged the public to promptly report emergencies through the national emergency lines for rapid response.
