The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has, in two separate operations, arrested two British nationals at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after intercepting a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs concealed in their luggage.
The suspects arrived in Ghana aboard an Emirates Airlines flight from Thailand when NACOC officers, acting on intelligence, flagged them for inspection.
A thorough search uncovered a total of 90 vacuum-sealed slabs of suspected cannabis. Sixty of the slabs weighed 32.89 kilograms, while an additional 30 slabs weighed 33.44 kilograms, bringing the total haul to more than 66 kilograms.
The substances have been secured as evidence and are undergoing forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
NACOC has described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against international drug trafficking and transnational organised crime.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be processed in accordance with the law, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the wider network behind the attempted smuggling operation.
