The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned the abuse of a six-year-old child at Asamankese, who was subjected to severe mistreatment due to bed-wetting, a medically recognized childhood condition.

In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit, the Ministry emphasized that no child should ever be punished, humiliated, or harmed for circumstances beyond their control.

Bed-wetting, the Ministry noted, is not a crime, act of defiance, or moral failing, but a health and developmental issue requiring care, patience and professional support rather than violence or cruelty.

The Ministry described the incident as a serious failure by caregivers to protect a vulnerable child and highlighted the urgent need for strict enforcement of child protection laws to deter such abuse.

Efforts to intensify public education on child rights continue, with the Ministry reaffirming that every child has the right to safety, dignity, and compassionate care at home, in school, and in all care settings.

Authorities have been urged to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served while prioritizing the physical and psychological well-being of the child.

Caregivers are encouraged to seek medical and psychosocial guidance when addressing childhood health and developmental challenges.

The Ministry also called on society to uphold its collective responsibility to protect children, speak out against all forms of abuse, and create safe environments where every child can grow without fear.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre or at the nearest police station.
