Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has announced that midfielder Abu Francis is set to be discharged from Toyota Memorial Hospital in Japan this weekend.

Francis, who suffered a serious injury during last week’s friendly against Japan, underwent surgery after fracturing two bones while trying to block a shot in the second half.

The GFA confirmed that the operation was successful and without complications, and the player immediately began the initial phase of his rehabilitation under careful medical supervision.

“Francis Abu’s condition has improved considerably,” Asante Twum said. “The surgery went as expected, his spirits are high, and the early stages of rehabilitation are progressing well. He is expected to leave the hospital this weekend.”

Francis had been stretchered off during the match, drawing concern from teammates over the injury’s severity. A GFA official will accompany him back to France upon discharge.

The 21-year-old, who joined Toulouse from Cercle Brugge earlier this year, was recalled for Ghana’s November friendlies after missing the World Cup qualifiers in September and October.
