GRDA condemns attacks on train and official; orders eviction of unauthorised structures

The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has strongly condemned two violent incidents that occurred on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, expressing deep concern over the increasing threats to the safety of railway personnel and infrastructure.

According to the Authority, one of its trains, DMU2, came under attack near Tema when unidentified individuals pelted it with stones, endangering both staff and passengers on board.

Later that evening, the General Manager of Passenger Service Operations at Tema was reportedly assaulted on his way home in Ashaiman. The official is currently receiving medical attention, with the Authority assuring its full support to him and his family.

“These acts of violence and vandalism are not isolated,” the Authority said in a statement on November 12, 2025. “They reflect a troubling pattern that threatens the safety of railway personnel and infrastructure and undermines the safety of our national transport system.”

The GRDA indicated that it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incidents and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

As part of immediate safety measures, the Authority has directed all unauthorised occupants and structures along the railway lines to vacate the area, with eviction exercises expected to commence immediately. It stressed that these measures are crucial to protect workers, passengers, and the general public.

The Authority further appealed to the public to respect the railway corridor and cooperate in maintaining a safe and reliable transport network. It also urged anyone with information regarding the attacks to report to the relevant authorities.
