GH¢20 million loan was secured to help Ghana Premier League clubs – Sports Minister reveals

-

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that a loan facility of GH₵20 million was secured to support the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

Before the start of the 2025/26 campaign, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced that each Premier League club would receive GH₵1 million to enhance their preparations.

The package was presented as part of a broadcast partnership with Adesa Productions.

However, reports soon surfaced suggesting that the government had a role in the funding arrangement—claims the GFA initially denied.

Speaking on Peace FM, Minister Kofi Adams confirmed the state’s financial involvement, explaining, “We took a loan of 20 million cedis from the bank as investment into the Ghana Premier League,” the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency revealed.

“We are working with corporate institutions to pay back this loan as soon as possible,” he added.

The minister also indicated that clubs retaining their Premier League status at the end of the season would receive financial rewards based on their final league positions.

As the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League heads into Matchday 10 this weekend, Aduana FC lead the table after eight games. Asante Kotoko remain unbeaten and trail by five points, with three outstanding fixtures—setting the stage for a potentially heated title race in the weeks ahead.
