Asutifi North MP donates sewing machines to 52 graduates to support youth employment

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North Constituency, Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has donated 52 sewing machines to newly trained fashion designers in Kenyasi, as part of efforts to empower young people to start their own businesses and tackle unemployment in the area.

The donation was made during a graduation ceremony at Kenyasi No.2, where beneficiaries, having completed their apprenticeship training, received the equipment to help launch their tailoring and dressmaking ventures.

In an interview with Adom News, Dr. Addo explained that many young people in the constituency struggle to acquire startup tools after completing their training. This challenge motivated him to mobilise resources and engage partners to support such initiatives.

“Most of our youth complete their apprenticeship but cannot afford the necessary tools to begin work. That is why I have made it a priority to secure sewing machines and other startup items to help them establish their businesses,” he said.

The MP also acknowledged the contributions of Ropeak Company, Happy G Company, and Asutifi South MP Alhaji Collins Dauda, whose support made the donation possible.

Dr. Addo added that skills development and apprenticeship support would remain a central focus of his legislative agenda, promising to continue advocating for more resources to assist young artisans in the constituency.

“Youth in apprenticeship are at the heart of my work. I’ll continue to lobby for the tools and materials they need to succeed,” he emphasised.

The Chairman of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), Kenyasi Branch, Ernest Opoku Agyemang, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the MP for his generosity.

“This support will enable the graduates to start their own businesses immediately and improve their living conditions,” he said, adding that the gesture would inspire others currently undergoing training.

Mr. Agyemang also urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the sewing machines, stressing that responsible utilisation and visible progress would encourage more stakeholders to invest in youth empowerment programmes within the district.
