The Black Princesses began their WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup title defence in style with a convincing 2-0 win over hosts Benin on Friday, November 7.
Goals from Linda Owusu Ansah and substitute Sarah Nyarko handed Ghana a perfect start to their campaign under head coach Charles Sampson.
The defending champions dominated the early exchanges, creating several scoring opportunities through their lively wing play but struggled to find an early breakthrough.
Their persistence paid off in the 23rd minute when a pinpoint long pass from Diana Amoako found Agnes Yeboah, who unselfishly set up Owusu Ansah to slot home the opener.
Benin offered little threat in the first half and went into the break trailing by a goal.
After the restart, coach Sampson made an inspired substitution, bringing on Sarah Nyarko for Yeboah. The change proved decisive as Nyarko made an instant impact, doubling Ghana’s advantage in the 78th minute to seal a well-deserved victory.
Midfielder Latifa Musa was named Player of the Match following a commanding display in the middle of the park.
The Black Princesses will next face archrivals Nigeria on Saturday, November 8, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
