Dr. Stephen Amoah, Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has called on Ghanaians to focus on pressing national issues such as youth unemployment and economic hardship, rather than getting distracted by debates over sexuality.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Amoah lamented that much of the country’s energy in both Parliament and public discourse has been directed toward LGBTQ+ issues, while urgent developmental matters receive little attention.
“The problems of Ghana are bigger than what we see. We live in a country where the youth don’t have jobs, yet our concentration and strength are on LGBTQ+ issues,” he said.
“I’m not saying LGBTQ+ matters should be ignored, but should that be our priority? Should it take up the greater part of our time?” he questioned.
The former Deputy Finance Minister stressed that the continuous focus on such debates diverts attention from addressing unemployment, economic reforms, and education.
On the perceived deception in Ghanaian politics, Dr. Amoah noted that the two major parties, the NPP and the NDC, have often relied on political gamesmanship to win power, frequently opposing each other’s policies rather than building on progress.
“For the past 30 years, NDC and NPP have been opposing each other’s policies. Can’t we, for once, look critically at who is speaking the truth?” he asked, citing the Free SHS policy as an example of partisanship overshadowing genuine policy evaluation.
Dr. Amoah urged Ghanaians to demand honest, development-focused leadership, emphasizing that politics should prioritize solving national problems, not promoting division or distraction.
