The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public alert over the rising circulation of AI-generated deepfake videos falsely featuring prominent personalities, including the President, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and media figures.
According to the CSA, these manipulated videos are being widely shared on social media, particularly Facebook, to promote fake investment schemes, fraudulent financial platforms, and unapproved medical products such as diabetic and weight-loss drugs.
The Authority explained that cybercriminals use artificial intelligence to mimic the voices and appearances of public figures, luring unsuspecting victims into scams that can result in financial loss or health risks.
Citizens have been urged to watch out for signs of deepfakes, verify claims with regulators such as the Bank of Ghana and the Food and Drugs Authority, and avoid sending money or personal information in response to suspicious adverts.
The CSA assured the public that it is working closely with law enforcement, social media platforms, and relevant agencies to track and remove the malicious content.
