The government has extended the curfew in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba township and surrounding communities in the Savannah Region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced that the renewed curfew will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily.
The decision, backed by an Executive Instrument and based on advice from the Regional Security Council, is aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the area.
The Ministry urged traditional authorities, community leaders, the youth, and residents to remain calm and resolve disputes through dialogue rather than violence.
“Government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement said.
The renewed curfew comes with additional restrictions, including a complete ban on the possession or use of firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons, with offenders facing arrest and prosecution.
In addition, authorities have prohibited two or more persons from riding together on a motorbike and banned the wearing of war-related regalia.
Officials explained that these measures are necessary to prevent further disturbances and ensure calm, as security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely.
