
President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York, United States, to lead Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which opens on Tuesday, September 23.
A statement from the presidency on Sunday, September 21, confirmed that the President will deliver Ghana’s address to the Assembly on Thursday, September 25.
President Mahama will also participate in several high-level side events in his capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions, including hosting two sessions focused on Africa’s economic and institutional development.
His itinerary includes bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, world leaders, and the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. Additionally, he will engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a historic appearance at NASDAQ, where he is scheduled to ring the closing bell.
The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, is accompanying the delegation. She will attend side events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver the keynote address at a World Vision International prayer service dedicated to children.
Other members of the delegation include Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and GIPC CEO Simon Madjie.
The President and his delegation are expected to return to Ghana on September 30.
